What is considered "Queen of the Crop?"

When we think...Queen of the Crop, what picture comes to mind? The cropper that shows up with 10 different bags, all matching, with a seat cushion?  The cropper that finishes over 100 pages of layouts, and all of them completed with journaling?  The one who has every shade of color paper that you could possibly think of?  The last man standing, still going strong at 5am? Or is it the one who has that special tool for your project that you forgot to bring along with every scrapbooking gadget imaginable?

I think it is all of these.  Let's face it, heaven knows you can't be too over prepared when it comes to scrapbooking!  Bring everything, but the kitchen sink, right?  This is why it is so great to attend scrapbooking retreats.  You can meet all these types of croppers and spend time with other people who love cropping as much as you do.  So what are you waiting for?

First Florida Scrapbooking Retreat of 2016

Scrapbook Retreat Florida April 2016

Looking forward to our next Sold Out Crop! Our next three day weekend retreat will be April 29-May 1st held at the Fairfield Inn (Kennedy Space Center) Titusville location.  Crop begins Friday at 10am and ends Sunday at 4pm.  Dinner will be offered on Saturday evening for this event.  

DIY Sun Banner

Created a cute little banner for my daughters room.  It hangs right over the top of her window so the sun can shine through. 

So easy to make with very little effort. 

First you take some wax paper and cut them into shapes.  In this case I used hearts, but you can let your imagination decide.  I then took a few different colors of wax crayons.  Crayola usually works the best.  You peel the paper off the crayon and gently shave some of the crayon over top of each wax shape.  A cheese grater, or vegetable peeler may be used for this step.  Spread the pieces out to cover more of the wax paper.  Take another shape and place over top of the shaved color.  This will double up the wax paper with a shape on the top and bottom with crayon in between.  Lastly, you use an iron to melt the crayon in between the shapes.  It only takes a few seconds to melt and it worked perfectly.  String up the banner and viola!  So cute.  Another variation is that you can cut the shapes after melting the crayon.

Becoming and staying organized is a tough task   One problem our household has is making sure we have everything we need for our days for work and school.  So to help with this we created a little wall organizer. 

Everything we bought for this was very inexpensive.  First we picked up a large monthly calendar to stay on top of what we needed for each day.  We then bought a wall hanger for all the extra's we may need to carry with us.  Finally to add a special touch, we used a shoe holder for those hurry and get going moments.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT SCRAPBOOKING RETREATS

Where should I begin?  There are a million things I could love about scrapbook crops.  This is a place where you can just "chill" with some friends, laughing, talking, and of course getting those scrapbooks caught up.  There are lots of different things about these retreats.  Some are four days, three, two or even one day crops.  You can stay up to all hours of the night and start again early the next morning.  You also get refreshing new ideas from other croppers.  We don't get much sleep but we sure have a lot of fun!  Listening to music, telling funny story's and don't forget winning some awesome door prizes. 

These are just a select few of the "good times" we have at our Scraptabulous Getaway Retreats.

Has anyone used the Gelli Plate for any mixed media layouts, cards, paper making, tags etc?  It is really fun and easy to take care of.  You can use it over and over on all types of different craft projects.  The ideas are endless.  Here is a tutorial to give you an overview of what wonderful prints you could create.

Craft Room Decor

 

TABLE SKIRT

 

 

 

Today I added a nice little addition to my craft room.  My craft table needed a little something to cover up all those loose cords that were plugged into the wall.  So I made a table skirt. 

First I bought a spring rod and fitted it to the length of my table.  I then took some material, and sewed it into a short curtain.  Another simple and inexpensive way to spruce up any room.

My craft room has been a work in progress for the past year.  Every month I think or find new things to use for organization.  Especially if I go looking through some of the thrift stores or garage sales.  You can always find things to refurbish. 

 

I can actually thank my husband for this one.  He had some of these rods in the garage that he was trying to figure out what to use them for.  He noticed I had all my craft ribbon in this nice little container.  But I had to search through about 30 of them to actually find what I wanted. 

 

So when I came home one afternoon, I had discovered this nice little rod attached to the side of my scrapbooking/ craft table.  On it was every one of my ribbon rolls and it looked "Scraptabulous"  No more searching through a box full of different color ribbon.  I can easily find which one I need and cut it right off the spool.

So easy!  Just attach two metal clamps to the side of any table.  Add ribbon to any rod you wish to use then slide it into the clamps.

 

 

 

 

 



My Scrapbooking Room

Still working on organizing my "Scraptabulous" work space!  Seems like I keep adding and adding things to put in it.  And always looking for a bargain or something that I can up-cycle.  

Doesn't look like I get much done in here either!  That's what our Scraptabulous Weekend Retreats are for.

Mixed Media Scrapbooking

Have you ever tried any of the hundreds of mixed media products out there for your layouts?  If so what have you tried? 

It's amazing all the different combinations you could use.  More, less, two or ten.  The skies the limit! 

I have been experimenting with fabric for the last week or two.  This is all new to me, so I'm learning as I go.  Just think, I was so intimidated by glitter when I was just a rookie scrapbooker.  I have learned, that you can't really mess up.  There is no right or wrong.  There is just Creativity!

Next, I have purchased some Gesso to try on my layout.  Maybe with some spritz spray and a few more layers and voila!  Scraptabulous!

Here are a few tutorials I have put together that explain some of the different types of media out there.  It can get a little over whelming, but once you try it a few times, it can be a lot of fun!

Scrapbooking Retreats in Florida

We have so much fun at our Scrapbooking Retreats!  

Some people ask us, What are Scrapbooking Retreats? 

Scrapbook retreats are just big slumber parties for women who love to scrapbook or make crafts with no interruptions.  Groups of girlfriends get together in one spot to laugh, chat and enjoy a little "me" time.  They work on scrapbook albums, creating cards, decorating picture frames and any other specialty craft they enjoy.  The day parties are usually ten to twelve hours of non stop scrapbooking, with the occasional break for a snack.  The weekend retreats are forty-eight hours of non stop scrapbooking with a little bit of sleep in between.  The best part is you can leave your supplies out and just pick up where you left off.  Don't forget the unlimited snacks and drinks and dinner included for Saturday at our Weekend Retreats.  We all know it is hard to get any of our albums completed when we are at home, and it is always more fun when you can experience it with friends. And for the beginners that just want to get started, please come and we will help you every step of the way. 


Some of the things we do at our crops.  Play games, win raffles, door prizes, laugh, eat, talk with friends, loose sleep.  Well the loose sleep part is optional, but usually we crop till the cows come home! 


I have compiled a list of games that you can play at a Scrapbooking Crop. 


1.  Grab bag game:  Everyone gets a bag full of different embellishments.  They then have to use all the embellishments on a layout.  When finished, vote on a winner. 


2.  I'm "Scraptabulous" :  This game whenever someone finishes a layout, card, etc. They yell this out and pass the traveling "S" around.  Whoever is holding the "S" when the timer goes off wins a prize.  (You can use anything as the traveler)


3.  Scrapbook Bingo :  Make a bingo card that has all different types of embellishments, and ideas to use on a layout or card.  Whoever finishes bingo first wins a prize. 


4.  Page Theme Game:  You write down a few page topics ....like a person wearing sunglasses, a trip to the zoo,  someone at the pool, snow day, etc.  Whoever can show you the most pages on each topic wins a prize. 


5.  Tool Time:  Everyone holds up a specific crafting tool.  Draw a tool name out of a bag and whoever is holding that tool up wins a prize.


These are just some of the games that we play at our retreats.  We always have a great time and win lots of great prizes.

Coffee Filter Wreath

I have finally finished it!  My coffee filter wreath!  I have been wanting to try this project for awhile.  Of course I got this idea off of Pinterest.  It was done a little differently, but I just changed a few things and made it my own creation.  

First I bought some white small coffee filters, a foam circle (from Michaels) and some straight pins.  You could also use glue instead of straight pins, but I thought I may want to change it up one day.  This way it would be easier to take apart.  

I then scrunched up two to three coffee filters, and placed them tightly together with one of the straight pins.  You can use more or less coffee filters depending on how tight you like them (if you prefer the fluffy look).  

I am going to try this next time using my spritz spray to add a little color to it.  I can't wait to see how it all rolls together.  

Fabric Scrapbooking

Has anyone every tried scrapbooking with fabric?  Well, I have wanted to try it for awhile now and finally created a page this past week.  It was very easy and a lot of fun to incorporate the different embellishments with my cardstock.  Since this was my first time, I started off with just a basic piece of fabric and added a few ribbons, lace, etc.  I actually used my regular photo tape to hold it down.  Then I just added some more borders, tags, frames, etc. 

My next try at using fabric is going to be a little more indepth.  I plan to use more fabric, sew the fabric to the actual page, and go all out with some extra embellishments!  I have a little piece of a jean pocket cut out that I might try to add to the page.
